FAQs

 What does ‘Ekjaa’ mean?
‘Ekjaa’ is a Persian word that means ‘Unanimous’.

What are the tangible ways in which I get to see my contribution working?

We would put up the progress of the initiatives on a fortnightly/monthly basis at ekjaa.org. Apart from this, we would also feature the real-life transformations of end-beneficiaries on our blog and website.
We also encourage volunteers to join us at ground zero and be a part of the transformation.

Why should I contribute in Ekjaa?
Ekjaa is unique in every sense of the word. At ‘Ekjaa’, we focus on the project as a whole rather than on a case/scenario basis, thus boosting the overall impact on the project.
We not only concentrate on the Donate Model, but also on the Lend Aspect, to promote self sustainability. We concentrate on social impact more than the financial aspects. Initiatives from across the country find their funding through us, thus helping you to make effective contributions to a domain close to your heart.

What is a difference between Donate and Lend and why lend?
There are various projects which we get for donate model example: education to orphans or BPL children, support old age homes, support multiple disabled people, these projects are fit for the donate model. The is the other sector of our society wherein physically and mentally fit people require support but they just fall lack of social and sometimes financial help. In order, to serve this sector of our society we collaborate with alternative finance providing institutions like Mutually Aided Corporative Societies(MACS), MFIs( Micro-Finance Institutions) to reach the end-beneficiaries. The benefit that the end-beneficiaries get after our intervention is that the interest rate that they are eligible to pay would reduce to a considerable extent which would be equal to the operational cost of the regional allies.

Can I choose the projects I want to donate or lend to?
Yes. You can choose which projects you want to donate to. In fact, if you have a Project and the organization suffices our specification you can recommend it to us via mail.

How does Ekjaa make money?
We are not a Profit making body. However, we do charge a certain percentage as our service charge, which is mainly for handling the payment gateway charges and other operational costs.

If you claim Ekjaa to be a Not For Profit organization, why do you need operational charges ?
Ekjaa is a public charitable trust Registration number: 17235 HPA/LA. Ekjaa aims at being a self-sufficient body. In order to be so, it is necessary for Ekjaa to levy operational charges as Payment Gateway services come at a premium.
Not For Profit organization is the one that does not distribute its surplus funds to owners or shareholders, but instead uses them to help pursue its goals.

How do you ensure that the NGO’s and their projects are not bogus ones ?
We, at Ekjaa, perform a pre-disbursal-due-diligence on the NGO’s to ensure their credibility. To help us with this, we have developed our own NGO Rating Model which helps us to rate them.

How do you ensure that the MFI/MACs is taking less interest rate?
While signing the agreement we clearly mention that the projects undertaken by us would be charged less interest rate which would be equivalent to the operational cost of the regional ally.

How do you ensure that the money reaches the end beneficiaries and proper activities are going on ?

Social Auditing. Our volunteers meet the end-beneficiaries during the pre-disbursal stage and continue meeting them on a regular basis, during the course of the project. Continuous monitoring helps us keep a track of milestones and ensures that the money reaches the end beneficiaries.

What is Social Auditing at Ekjaa?
Social Auditing is defined as a concept of Organization assessment and project verification , monitoring, appraising the project and organization and measuring the social performance and impact of the amount invested. The aim is effective implementation and control of irregularities. It would indicate how much impact the money invested has created.

Note: Organizations means Regional Allies.

Will you be sharing the end-results of the project with me ?
Yes. The updates of the projects would be displayed forthnightly or monthly as per the project.

Will I be refunded if the initiative I had contributed to – fails to reach its objective or is withdrawn by the NGO ?
As much as we would like to refund you, we also request you to consider the fact that there would have been activities going on at ground zero together with the operational costs of the NGO. Hence it would be impossible for us to refund.

We are a group of individuals who would like to contribute a lumpsum amount for Ekjaa, can we all get the Tax Exemption Certificate ?
Ekjaa issues the Tax Exemption Certificate, annually ,on per user basis. However, the certificates are issued only for users registered online with Ekjaa and not available for non-registered users.

Should I contribute monthly? Can I contribute on a “case-by-case” basis alone?
We encourage regular contributors. Yes, you are welcome to contribute on a “case-by-case” basis.
